It All Boils Down To Who, What, Why and How

By now, you know how much I enjoy using the various digital marketing platforms, tools, and strategies to empower small business owners to take control of their online presence.
Whether consulting on a website redesign, creating e-newsletters, working on a social media strategy, or analyzing insights on the various platforms, what is of topmost priority is ensuring that the client’s brand and message are consistent and that we can clearly convey what differentiates them from all the others. What is this “Call-to-Action” of Which You Speak?

If you and I have spoken recently – and I went on one of my “make sure your website has_______.” (fill in the blank) riffs – I probably brought up “Calls-to-Action” – and I probably brought that up alot!

But Susan, What is the “Call-to-Action” of which you speak?

A Call-to-Action (CTA) is an image or line of text that prompts your visitors, leads, and customers to take action, such as “Sign-up Now”, or “Request a Quote”. The CTA is your final instruction to your reader. Literally, it is a “Call” to take an “Action”   The action you want people to take could be anything: download an e-book, sign up for a webinar, get a coupon, attend an event, etc. A CTA can be placed anywhere in your marketing — on your website, in an e-book, in an email, or even at the end of a blog post.

So Susan, What Do You Do?

As a digital marketing strategist, my focus is on empowering small business owners and independent professionals with an arsenal of tips, tools, resources and strategies that enable them to connect and engage with their targeted audience in meaningful ways. I consider myself a loyal partner, a patient teacher, and a fierce advocate for my clients.

So, for instance, this month I had the pleasure (seriously, I love this stuff) of performing website and online platform reviews for a number of clients. I went through each and every page of their website, searched for them on Google, and examined their social media platforms. The clients received a 3-5 page report of everything I found (the good, the bad, and in a few cases, the ugly).

What’s Your Superpower?

Growing up, I just loved comic books.  I read Batman, Superman, Lost in Space, Hulk, Captain Marvel. And then, there were the tv characters. Every week I would tune in to watch Adam West as Batman. Of course, I was fascinated by Julie Newmar as Catwoman, Yvonne Craig as Batgirl , and Lynda Carter as Wonderwoman, as I strived to try to figure out where I would fit in when it was time to save the world. Pippi Longstocking’s adventurous spirit fascinated me and I read every one of the Nancy Drew Mysteries books. Just imagine what a young girl could accomplish with focus, determination, spirit and – maybe, just one superpower.

Suggested Reads – Email Marketing

Seriously, in your experience, does anyone really actually look forward to receiving email newsletters?  Probably most people do not. ( Well, I sometimes do because I love to see what my clients and networks are up to. ) But, don’t despair.  Armed with a supply of knowledge, tips and tools, you can keep your own email newsletters from becoming cyber-trash.

email-marketing

It’s been reported that over 42% of subscribers are more likely to purchase or use services from a company after they’ve subscribed to their emails. Also, email newsletters are a great touch-point to remind your contacts about your mere existence! There’s no real downside to sending out newsletters.  BUT – be sure that when you do, that you use common sense, be careful with your language and avoid being spammy.  Even this alone should help keep your subscription results positive.

This month, I have collected some of my favorite articles on the topic of email marketing. I hope that you will find them a useful resource for your business.

Make the Most of your Local Business Networking Group.

make the most of your networking groupsOne of the most common pieces of wisdom more experienced business people will share is that business networking is the quickest and most effective way to successfully growing your business. It is commonly stated and widely accepted that “people will do business with other people they know long before they’ll do business with people they find through an advertisement”.  It’s the Know ~ Like ~ Trust concept.

Your local networking efforts probably should not be centered around trying to making direct sales. (Although, clearly, direct sales would logically occur as a result.)  Through local business networking you will build your professional connections. The networking activities will help to establish trust. New business through new opportunities is inevitable.  You will increase your own personal knowledge while learning about others.  And, do not forget about that golden nugget: word-of-mouth advertising.

Inbound15 – My Takeaways

Each year, HubSpot sponsors 4 days of truly inspiring events to over 10,000 inspired marketers from every industry. The conference offers over 170 educational sessions along with five pretty incredible keynote speakers. To my good fortune, the conference is held right here in Boston. I packed up my computer and a notebook, hopped on the MBTA and spent the second week of September at the Boston Convention and Event Center in beautiful Seaport.

Before I post my notes, you actually might be wondering what, exactly IS inbound marketing?

HubSpot describes Inbound Marketing: Sharing is caring and inbound is about creating and sharing content with the world. By creating content specifically designed to appeal to your dream customers, inbound attracts qualified prospects to your business and keeps them coming back for more. By publishing the right content in the right place at the right time, your marketing becomes relevant and helpful to your customers, not interruptive. Now that’s marketing people can love.
